Mikolas Josef has won the Czech national selection and will represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon with the song Lie To Me. The song beat five other songs. The winning song was chosen by a combination of jury votes and public votes through the official Eurovision app. On the 23rd of January it was already announced that Mikolas Josef had won the jury vote.

I have to say that I was not surprised with this representative for Czech Republic. The song is very catchy and fun, but I am worried about several aspects of this song. First of all, the live vocals. I still haven’t seen or heard a live performance of this song and the fastness of the lyrics requires someone with a clear pronunciation. The performance will most likely feature a dance routine and as everyone knows singing and dancing at the same time isn’t easy. The lyrics of the song form a second major problem. The lyrics contain explicit words and that’s not allowed at the Eurovision Song Contest. I don’t think the song is bad, I actually quite like it since it is such a catchy song. But I’m worried about how it will all work out on a big stage. It’s a typical radio song and mostly those don’t do great at Eurovision. I have mixed feelings about it but I can only judge the studio version for now: 7/10
