Sanja Ilić & Balkanika have won Beovizija 2018 and will represent Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. Their song Nova Deca received 12 points from the Serbian jury panel and 12 points from the televoters. The winner was chosen by a combination of both voters.

Sanja Ilić is a Serbian composer who founded the group Balkanika in 1998. The main goal of the band is to increase the popularity of Balkan music. The Eurovision Song Contest is the perfect opportunity for them to send out their message.

I’m actually very happy with this song for Serbia. The song is very nice, very ethnic and very Eurovision. The song has those typical Balkan sounds in it and I just think that’s a thing we need more of at the contest. The first minute of the song is just amazing. That minute is able to win the entire contest. The following two minutes are a bit disappointing. The male voice and the more modern melody are alright but I would have preferred an entire Balkan song. Right now, it feels like two songs have been mixed together but I don’t know if people will really understand the entire song because of that. I really think that this is a perfect song to stage well. The vocals are already perfect so the only thing Serbia has to pay attention to is the staging and lighting. I hope that they will take this big opportunity for them to make an impact at the Eurovision Song Contest. 7/10
