Alexander Rybak has won Melodi Grand Prix 2018 and will represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. Rybak won with the song That’s How You Write A Song. The first round of voting consisted of international juries each voting for their favourite song. Four songs went through to the Gold Final. There, the winner was decided by televotes.
I have a lot of mixed feelings with this winner. I mean, it’s Alexander and I love him and his music. But the song isn’t great. Yet, I’ve been singing the song all day long. So maybe it’s not that bad after all. I think it’s clear that Alexander is a great performer. He managed to grab my attention during the entire song. It never got boring. I have to say that the song does get better after a few listens. The worst part is without doubt the scoobidoopapap part. I don’t like that. But the rest of the song is pretty decent. The part with the violin is so epic, and I’m sure that Eurovision fans will love it. The song isn’t the best, but I’m starting to like it because it’s so catchy and fun. I didn’t like those special effects, and I would rather see him with a more classy staging. That would make the song less childish as well. I think he will get a lot of votes just because of him and not because of the music. This song by another artist would never make it through to the final. But with Alexander, who knows … 7/10
