Eugent Bushpepa had already won Festivali i Këngës 56, the Albanian national selection, on the 23th of December. Eugent Bushpepa will represent Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon with the song Mall. The official Eurovision version of the song was released yesterday.
Since there wasn’t an official version of the song, I never really paid attention to it. If I have to admit, I never even listened to the full version. So this is my first real impression of the song. I quite like the song. The Albanian language really suits the song and is just beautiful. The song itself isn’t very memorable, but has a nice melody. And the use of instruments is great as well. Overall, I don’t really have anything bad to say about it. But it’s just a bit ordinary, especially for Eurovision. I don’t think that this song has a big chance at qualifying. But I do think that this Albanian version has more chances than an English version would. An English version would make the song too ordinary. But I’m very excited to see what the performance will look like. I’m really hoping for a classic staging, with sublte rock elements. But I’m convinced that this is a promising entry from Albania. 6/10
