Hello everyone and welcome to my blog about the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s been a while since I’ve posted something on this site, but I’ve been busy with my Dutch site: http://www.eurovisiesongfestivalmetilana.wordpress.com. Today I’m going to discuss this year’s contest and the competing songs. Feel free to leave your own comment on the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 below!
Albania was (as always) the first to announce their song and artist. Spain and France followed. Up until this point I was still mainly positive about the contest. I didn’t really like Bilal from France to be the representative, because I think Destination Eurovision had better candidates. But it didn’t bother me that much either. From then on, things got worse. I hardly liked any of the competing songs from the national selections and I thought the winners were horrible. Fortunately, the announcement of the return of Sergey Lazarev gave me some joy.
Now all the 41 songs have been chosen and I have to say that this will be a bad year for the Eurovision Song Contest. A lot of the songs are mediocre and I just don’t want that in 2019. Especially after the last few amazing years. Since 2015 the Eurovision Song Contest has grown so much in my opinion. The songs have become above average. So I’m sad to see this setback. I don’t really know what caused this, but I think that Netta’s song Toy wasn’t the best winner after all. I think the song didn’t set the bar high enough for the following year.
But it’s not all bad. I really like Norway, Portugal and Italy. Those are three songs I regularly listen to and really enjoy. And as I’ve already said, I’m thrilled to see Sergey Lazarev back at the contest. In 2016 he was my true winner, so I hope all the best for him. I don’t think his song is the best, but I do believe in his capacities as a performer and I support him no matter what. The Netherlands is the current favourite to win. I don’t really get why, to be honest. The song is nice, but I don’t get a winning vibe from it.
I really hope that the staging will improve the songs, because for now I’m not really enthusiastic about it. What do you think about it?
